The Horn Environmental and Fisheries Organization (HEFO) participated in a consultation meeting on June 30, 2024. The meeting was organized by the Somali Ministry of Planning and SONSAF, the Somali NGO Consortium. The event marked an important milestone in the ongoing review of the NOGs Act.
The review and update of the NGOs Act aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the operations of NGOs. The event brought together diverse stakeholders to discuss the improvements made to the regulatory framework governing these types of organizations. The reviewed act is expected to strengthen the operations of NGOs, promoting greater transparency and accountability in their activities.
SONSAF has promised that there will be additional consultation meetings conducted in various regions to deeply address the challenges faced by NGOs in carrying out their activities. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of ensuring responsibility and avoiding any conflicts of interest that may arise during the review of the act, in order to prevent similar challenges from occurring in the future.
