Livestock &
Pastoral Development
Strengthening the backbone of Somalia’s economy through health, innovation, and inclusive growth.
A Vital Livelihood Source
The livestock sector remains a critical pillar of Somalia’s economy. HEFO strengthens this sector by improving access to quality animal health services and training veterinary workers.
We promote improved herd management and disease prevention practices to enhance productivity and reduce livestock losses.
Animal Health & Inputs
Training community-based veterinary workers and facilitating the availability of fodder, water, and essential vaccines to prevent disease.
We ensure pastoralists have the tools they need to keep their livestock healthy and productive throughout the year.
Value Chain Development
Complementing these efforts, HEFO adopts a value-chain development approach to increase market access, improve processing and storage.
Enabling producers to obtain fairer prices for meat, milk, and related products, transforming subsistence farming into profitable enterprise.
Inclusion (Women & Youth)
Women and youth are supported through tailored training and enterprise start-up assistance in areas such as poultry farming, dairy processing, and goat fattening.
Ensuring meaningful participation contributes to a more resilient, productive, and inclusive sector.

Targeted Interventions
Emergency veterinary teams are delivering lifesaving treatment to livestock and working animals across drought-affected communities in Somaliland (Gabiley, Salahley, and Buro), helping protect livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and reduce disease-related losses.
The project is supporting vulnerable working animals in Somaliland (Gabiley, Salahley, and Buro) through emergency feed assistance, disease surveillance, and community-based animal health services to sustain rural livelihoods and improve animal welfare during the drought crisis.
Through training Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) and strengthening disease monitoring systems in Somaliland (Gabiley, Salahley, and Buro), the intervention is enhancing local response capacity and improving early detection and control of priority livestock diseases.

Data Driven Results
Our data-driven approach ensures that every intervention translates into tangible improvements for the pastoral communities. From reduced mortality rates to increased household incomes, we track our success by the resilience of the families we serve.
